Grandma’s Irish Soda Bread

An Irish family recipe that is a hit at every gathering. Just slice and top with butter.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups of flour
  • ½ cup of sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 2 cup of raisins
  • 1 ⅓ cups butter milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F.
  2. Combine flour sugar salt and baking powder
  3. Cut in butter and add raisins
  4. Mix butter milk egg and baking soda together
  5. Add to dry ingredients
  6. Mix together by hand into a stiff dough
  7. Place dough evenly around a greased and floured tube cake pan
  8. Bake for 1 hour
