Mummy Brownies Recipe

Servings: 12-16 slices, depending on how large you cut them
Prep Time: 15-20 minutes
Cook Time: 25-30 minutes

Ingredients:

For the Brownies:

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

For Decoration:

  • White fondant (for the mummy wraps)
  • Black fondant (for the googly eyes)
  • Edible adhesive or water (to attach fondant)
  • Optional: a bit of powdered sugar (to dust the surface)

Instructions:

Make the Brownies:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a 9×13 inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. Melt the butter in a large saucepan over low heat. Remove from heat and stir in sugar, eggs, and vanilla until well combined.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  5. Pour the brownie batter into the prepared pan and spread it evenly.
  6. Bake for about 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out mostly clean.
  7. Allow brownies to cool completely in the pan before cutting into slices.

Prepare Fondant Decorations:

  1. While the brownies are cooling, knead the white fondant until soft and pliable. Roll it out to about 1/8 inch thick.
  2. Cut strips of fondant (about 1/2 inch wide) to create the mummy wraps. You can vary the lengths for a more whimsical look.
  3. For the googly eyes, roll small balls of black fondant and flatten them. You can also make smaller white balls to place on top for the eyes.

Decorate the Brownies:

  1. Once the brownies are completely cooled, use the fondant strips to create a mummy wrap pattern on top of each slice.
  2. Attach the googly eyes using a bit of edible adhesive or water.

Serve:

  • Arrange your mummy brownies on a platter and enjoy!
