These indulgent little sliders pack all the flavor of yummy French onion soup into a tiny little sandwich.
Ingredients
- 3 tablespoons butter
- 3 large sweet onions, sliced
- 1 large shallot, chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 3 tablespoons dry vermouth
- 2 ½ pounds lean ground beef
- 1 tablespoon beef stock base
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- ½ teaspoon thyme
- ½ teaspoon parsley
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
- 24 Sweet Hawaiian rolls, cut in half
- 1 cup gruyere cheese, grated
- 1 cups swiss cheese, grated
- 6 tablespoons butter
- 1 tablespoon of beef stock base
- ½ tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 3 tablespoons sesame seeds
- 1 tablespoon fresh thyme, chopped
- 1 teaspoon fresh parsley, chopped
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
Directions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F.
- Place a skillet over medium heat. Melt 3 tablespoons of butter and add in the onions and shallots. Cook, stirring occasionally, until caramelized, about 35-40 minutes. Add minced garlic and cook another 2 minutes.
- While onions are cooking, combine ground beef, 1 tablespoon beef base, 1 tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper to a large mixing bowl. Set aside.
- Add dry vermouth to the caramelized onions and with a spatula, quickly mix in the vermouth, scraping down the sides and bottom of the skillet as you go.
- Add the beef mixture to the caramelized onions. Brown the beef, breaking up into small pieces and mixing with onions thoroughly. If any liquid is left in skillet after beef is thoroughly browned, drain away and discard. Immediately turn off burner and remove skillet from heat.
- Grease a large baking sheet and place the bottom half of the Sweet Hawaiian rolls in the baking sheet.
- Pour beef and onion mixture over the bottom half of the Hawaiian rolls and even out mixture over all. Sprinkle grated gruyere and swiss cheese over all. Place the top half of the Hawaiian rolls on top.
- Melt the 6 tablespoons of butter and add 1 tablespoon of beef base, and ½ tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce. Stir until thoroughly combined and brush mixture over the top of all the Hawaiian rolls. Sprinkle rolls with the sesame seeds, thyme, parsley, onion powder, and garlic powder.
- Bake the sliders for 20 minutes, or until the gruyere and swiss is all melted, and the tops of the Hawaiian rolls are starting to brown.
