Caramelized French Toast

Ingredients: 4 slices Texas toast 4 large eggs ½ cup buttermilk ¼ cup heavy cream 3 tablespoons granulated sugar 1 ½ teaspoons vanilla extract ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon ¾ cup confectioners’ sugar 2 plus tablespoons unsalted butter Maple syrup for topping

Directions: Step 1: Wisk the eggs, buttermilk, cream, granulated sugar, vanilla and cinnamon in a large baking dish. Add the bread and turn covering both sides. Preheat the oven to 250 degrees. Step 2: Put the confectioners’ sugar in a fine-mesh sieve. Melt 1 tablespoon butter in a large nonstick skillet over medium heat. Add half of the bread and dust generously with the confectioners’ sugar; cook turning and dusting often with more confectioners’ sugar, until golden brown and caramelized, 10 to 12 minutes. Transfer the French toast to a baking sheet and warm in the oven. Serve with maple syrup.
